Engineer Jack Burns of the Sylph, killed in action. 

Engineer Burns unwisely opened the hatch of a Martian pirate vessel, which was deemed emptied of crew by cannister fire.  Sadly, some crew had hidden within, and opened fire with muskets upon the hatch's opening, killing Mr Burns instantly.
